Body Acne and Bacne

Clear breakouts on the back, chest, and shoulders with light therapy and barrier-supportive body protocols. We treat body acne with the same precision as face acne.

The concern

Causes and Treatment

Body acne is more stubborn than face acne for two reasons: the skin is thicker and the breakouts often happen in areas that are sweat-prone (under sports bras, in athletic gear). Most over-the-counter body acne products are too harsh and damage the barrier without solving the underlying inflammation.

Better's approach to body acne uses the same in-office tools we use for facial acne, scaled for body areas:

  • Forever Clear BBL for bacterial reduction and inflammation.
  • Personalized Chemical Peels for clogged pores and texture.
  • K-Beauty barrier protocols to calm inflammation and prevent rebound.

Most body acne patients respond well within 4 to 8 weeks of treatment. The hard part is preventing recurrence, which requires updating shower routines, athletic gear hygiene, and product choices.

Recommended treatments

Better Med Spa's Recommended Treatments

Better treats body acne with four primary tools.

Forever Clear BBL on Body

BBL light therapy adapted for body areas. Targets P. acnes bacteria and inflammation. Effective for back, chest, shoulders, and other body breakouts.

Best for: Active body breakouts, post-acne marks, athletic patients with sweat-related acne.

Personalized Chemical Peel for Body

Custom-blended salicylic peel adapted for body skin. Reduces oil, exfoliates clogged pores, and fades post-acne marks.

Best for: Comedonal body acne, post-acne marks, oily back or chest skin.

Acne Fighter Facial (Body Adaptation)

Better's targeted acne facial scaled for body areas. Includes deep cleansing, extractions, antibacterial actives, and barrier-supportive recovery.

Best for: Mild to moderate body acne, ongoing management, post-treatment care.

Glass Skin Facial (Body Barrier Repair)

K-Beauty barrier-repair protocol adapted for body skin. Calms inflammation and rebuilds tolerance for patients with body acne complicated by over-treatment.

Best for: Sensitive body skin, post-aggressive-treatment recovery, ongoing maintenance.

Update your shower routine. Most body acne patients leave conditioner on too long, use overly fragranced body washes, or shower right after exercise without rinsing properly. We will discuss simple changes that can dramatically reduce recurrence.

The single biggest factor in body acne is what happens between treatments. Body skin gets exposed to sweat, fabric friction, residue from shampoo and conditioner, and athletic gear. Treatment in office is necessary but not sufficient. We will work with you on the at-home factors.

Realistic timeline: meaningful improvement at 4 to 8 weeks of consistent treatment. Maintenance every 4 to 6 weeks for active patients.

What to expect

What to Expect at Better Med Spa

Body acne consultations at Better start with a 10-minute assessment of distribution and severity. We discuss your shower routine, athletic habits, and current products. Almost always recommend simplifying.

Forever Clear BBL on body: 30 to 45 minutes, mild redness for a few hours. Chemical peels: 30 to 45 minutes, possibly some flaking. Acne Fighter Facial on body: 60 to 90 minutes.

Dr. Brechner supervises all body acne protocols.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is body acne harder to treat than face acne?

Thicker skin, sweat exposure, friction from clothing and athletic gear, and product residue from shampoo and conditioner. Body acne also tends to be more inflamed, especially on the back where sebaceous glands are dense.

How many BBL sessions for body acne?

4 to 6 weekly sessions for active acne, then maintenance monthly. Most patients see meaningful improvement within 4 to 8 weeks.

Will I scar from body acne?

Active acne has scar-creating potential, especially with picking. Better's protocol is to calm acne first, then treat any scars with RF Microneedling once skin is stable. Treating scars during active breakouts produces new scars on top of old.

Most patients describe the injections as a series of small pinches. We use the smallest needles available and can apply topical numbing cream on request. The whole appointment is typically under 30 minutes including the consultation.

Should I change my shower products?

Often yes. Heavy fragrances, comedogenic body washes, and aggressive scrubs all contribute. We will recommend specific changes at consultation.

How much does body acne treatment cost in Chicago?

Forever Clear BBL on body and chemical peels are priced per session and area. Acne Fighter Facial is priced per session. Series and Membership pricing reduce per-session cost. See our Specials.
