Most cancers are detected late because routine screening only covers a handful of types: breast, colon, lung, prostate, cervical. The majority of cancers don't have screening tests, which means they're typically diagnosed only after symptoms appear.
The Galleri test is a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood test that screens for over 50 cancer types in a single draw. It uses methylation patterns in cell-free DNA to identify cancer signals that conventional screening misses, often years before symptoms develop.
Galleri is FDA-investigational and complementary to (not a replacement for) standard screenings. Better offers it as part of comprehensive longevity care for patients over 50 or those with elevated risk profiles.

The Galleri test detects a cancer signal in approximately 1% of asymptomatic patients tested. Detected signals are followed by diagnostic imaging or other workup to confirm or rule out. Most positive signals turn out to be benign on follow-up.
Better's protocol is to pair Galleri with a comprehensive baseline panel so any cancer signal can be evaluated in the context of overall metabolic and hormonal health.
What to Expect at Better Med Spa
Galleri visits at Better take 15 minutes for the blood draw. Results return in 7 to 14 days. We schedule a follow-up consultation to review results and recommend any further workup.
If a cancer signal is detected, we coordinate with your primary care physician and refer to appropriate specialists for diagnostic imaging or biopsy. Better is part of your care team, not a replacement for oncology when needed.

No. Galleri is complementary to standard screening, not a replacement. Continue your mammogram, colonoscopy, prostate exam, and other recommended screens. Galleri adds detection for cancer types that don't have standard screening.
How accurate is the Galleri test?
Galleri detects a cancer signal in approximately 1% of asymptomatic patients tested. False-positive rate is low (under 1%). False-negative rate exists, especially for early-stage cancers. The test is most useful as part of comprehensive screening rather than alone.
What happens if Galleri detects a signal?
We schedule a follow-up consultation, coordinate with your primary care physician, and refer to specialists for diagnostic imaging or biopsy as needed. Better is part of your care team during follow-up.
Most patients describe the injections as a series of small pinches. We use the smallest needles available and can apply topical numbing cream on request. The whole appointment is typically under 30 minutes including the consultation.
Is Galleri covered by insurance?
Currently no, Galleri is investigational and patients pay out of pocket. Some HSAs cover it. We discuss pricing at consultation.
