Sun-Damaged Hands
Reverse the aging signs on your hands. Fade age spots, restore lost volume, and smooth crepiness with combined BBL, hand filler, and resurfacing.
Causes and Treatment
Hands age faster than the face. The skin is thin, the bones become more prominent as fat pads thin, the veins become more visible, and cumulative sun exposure produces age spots and texture damage. By the 50s and 60s, hands often "give away" age that the face doesn't.
Hand rejuvenation works on three layers:
- Pigmentation: age spots and sun damage respond to BBL light therapy.
- Texture and crepiness: Moxi laser and chemical peels smooth surface and stimulate collagen.
- Volume loss: hand filler restores plumpness and softens visible veins and tendons.
Better's approach combines all three. Most patients combine BBL for pigment and hand filler for volume in the same visit, with optional Moxi or peels for texture.
Better Med Spa's Recommended Treatments
Better treats hands with four primary tools, almost always combined.
Hand Filler
Hyaluronic acid filler placed on the back of the hand to restore lost volume, soften visible veins and tendons, and reduce the bony appearance. Lasts 12 to 18 months.
BBL on Hands
Light therapy that fades age spots and pigmentation on the back of the hands. Series of 3 to 4 sessions. Same technology used on the face.
Moxi Laser
Non-ablative laser that smooths hand texture, fades pigment, and improves overall skin quality. 3 to 5 days of sandpaper feel.
Personalized Chemical Peel
Custom-blended peel for hand skin. Useful for mild texture and pigmentation between heavier treatments.
Hands age fast. Daily SPF on the back of your hands prevents the next decade of damage. We will recommend a hand-specific SPF as part of your treatment plan, since most face sunscreens get washed off by handwashing.
How to Choose Between Them
Match treatment to your hand-aging pattern.
| If you want | Choose |
|---|---|
| Age spots and pigmentation | BBL series of 3 to 4 |
| Visible veins and bony hands | Hand Filler |
| Crepey skin and fine lines | Moxi laser series |
| Both pigment and volume | BBL + Hand Filler combo |
| Comprehensive package | BBL + Hand Filler + Moxi |
| Maintenance only | Annual BBL + chemical peel |
The biggest mistake is treating only one layer when multiple are contributing. Hand filler alone leaves the age spots visible. BBL alone leaves the bony, veiny appearance. Combining the two produces dramatically better results.
Realistic timeline: BBL series over 3 to 4 months, hand filler same-day or paired with the final BBL. Maintenance: BBL annually, hand filler every 12 to 18 months.
What to Expect at Better Med Spa
Hand consultations at Better start with an assessment of pigmentation, volume, and texture. We grade severity and recommend a phased plan.
BBL on hands: 30 to 45 minutes, no numbing required. Expect mild redness for a few hours. Hand Filler: 20 to 30 minutes total, with topical numbing. Expect mild swelling and possible bruising for 3 to 7 days. Moxi: 30 to 45 minutes with topical numbing.
Dr. Brechner supervises all hand rejuvenation protocols.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do hands age faster than the face?
Thinner skin, fewer oil glands, and cumulative unprotected sun exposure. Most people don't apply SPF to their hands as consistently as their face, and what they do apply gets washed off frequently.
How long does hand filler last?
12 to 18 months for most patients. Maintenance every 12 to 18 months keeps results.
How many BBL sessions for hands?
3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. You'll see age spots darken and flake off as treatment progresses, with significant fading by the end of the series.
Most patients describe the injections as a series of small pinches. We use the smallest needles available and can apply topical numbing cream on request. The whole appointment is typically under 30 minutes including the consultation.
Is treatment safe for darker skin tones?
BBL requires caution for Fitzpatrick types IV to VI. We modify or avoid aggressive BBL on darker skin and use Moxi or chemical peels instead. Hand filler is safe across all skin tones.
How much does hand rejuvenation cost in Chicago?
BBL on hands and Moxi are priced per session. Hand Filler is priced per syringe. Combo packages reduce per-treatment cost. See our Specials.
